Practice a few times. Once you get the hang of it you can go quite quickly but you will want to practice so that you stitches are even in tension. Just barely loose enough to slide on your needles.  

TIP: when counting your stitches, the first slip knot DOES count as a stitch! 

TIP: when joining your knitting to start knitting on circulars, make sure your work is not twisted around!
