XIII.  Binding Off

There are several different ways to cast off when you have finished your project.  I will explain the most basic way to cast off, using two needles.

So you have finished knitting the leg of your soaker pants, or the sleeve of your sweater, and you are ready to cast off.  At the beginning of the round, or row if you are on straight needles, simply knit the first two stitches.  You will now have two stitches on your right needle.  Using your left needle, carefully slip the first knitted stitch over the second and off the needle.  Now you have one stitch cast off and secure. From her you will knit another stitch, leaving you again with two stitches on your right needle.  Again, carefully slip the first stitch over the second and of the needle.  Repeat this process until you have one stitch left on your right needle.  Cut a six-inch tail and pull it through the last stitch and tug until the end is secure.  You are now ready to weave in the end!!

To create a stretchier bind off you can use larger needles when casting off.
